Links I found interesting from the week of 8/13/06:

* From the Black Hat conference, "hacking a laptop through the wireless card":http://software.newsforge.com/software/06/08/08/1351256.shtml?tid=78&tid=138. Scary stuff, considering most of us don't think much of connecting to public access point these days at coffee shops.

* On a non-tech related note, Tuesday's ESPN "Daily Quickie":http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/quickie?date=060815 announced that the Daily Quickie is ending at the end of this month. I was floored. I'm not as big into sports since I dropped cable two years ago, but I still read the Daily Quickie religiously every morning over breakfast.

* Bruce Tate, a high profile Java to Ruby defector, has an "interview":http://blog.rapidred.com/articles/2006/08/10/a-conversation-with-a-customer with one of his clients about how choosing Rails for a project was a complete success. More proof that Rails has a place in the world of big business.

* An "article":http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/newsnight/4777801.stm about how Portland, Oregon has made a conscious effort to make public transportation a focus for getting around the city. I'd love it if Lancaster had real bicycle lanes. Right now I just try to coexist with cars as best I can (the sidewalk is much, much more dangerous).

And the one link you really should pay attention to:

* If you need a great way to spend 84 minutes of your time go find a copy of "Boys of Baraka":http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0444608/ to watch. Lisa picked it out at the Lancaster County Library and we loved it. Documentary about a group of inner city boys from Baltimore that spend 7th grade at a small boarding school in Africa.
