What Is Simplist?
A CMS Foundation
Simplist is made for Rails developers who want to develop a website with Rails and want an easy way to have CMS functionality. Simplist gives you:
- An easy way to update page content, upload files, and write blog posts.
- A built in blog with pre-created pages for archives, search, and an RSS feed.
- A simple interface that doesn’t try to do too much.
- Textile to create content.
- An admin interface that seemlessly blends into your site
Why use Simplist?
Simplist is for Rails developers who still need the full functionality of the Rails framework. Since Simplist is not a self-contained application you still have ERB templates, ActionMailer, Plugins, and everything else in Rails available.
Simplist is specifically made to be extensible and serve as a base for you to work from.

After some prodding emails from a few readers I’ve put out Simplist 2. It has a very basic design to get started and generates some basic pages and posts to play with. I’ve been using it long enough personally to declare it stable, but there are probably a few things I’ve missed. Let me know if you run into any problems.
Well, v0.6 is older, but still works well, and is a solid CMS in its own right. I’m leaving it up for posterity, but I’d recommend using v2.0.
